Under Federal Law, the penalties are tougher for crack cocaine than for powder cocaine. Just 50 grams of crack cocaine is punishable by a minimum of ten years in prison and a maximum of life in prison. Just 5 grams of crack carries a minimum sentence of five years in Federal Prison.
